Type 1w9 means people with type one personality have secondary traits of type nine personality. Such personalities are highly idealistic yet detached from the people. They appear disconnected and impersonal to others. Type one with wing nine is in conflict within themselves because type one strives to provoke change whereas type nine wants to avoid that. As a result, such people distance themselves and observe & evaluate their surroundings logically. 

Healthy versions of these personalities are objective with reasonable judgment, spiritual, scholarly, and attracted to nature and art rather than people. Although they are not emotionally expressive, they make loyal & generous friends, good speakers, articulate writers, and educators of good principles.  They try to raise awareness through their skills of verbal and written expression yet they are pessimistic at times about whether their advice will be taken by others or not. They avoid politics yet spread their teachings in an abstract manner devoid of any personal or emotional component. Although type Ones get angry, yet this type is more sarcastic, stiff, and impatient than aggressive. They prefer being alone, push away people who disagree with their worldview, and rigidly hold strong opinions.

Unhealthy versions of this personality see other people as the problem and source of evil in the world. They compulsively take action to eradicate such sources and can cause other harm in the process. Yet, they don’t understand what they are doing is wrong in the name of idealism.

They are idealistic people who appear to be impersonal in their manner. Often, they try to be observant of their surroundings and use such information to guide their behavior. They use their skills of writing and speech to spread awareness and feel a strong sense of duty to do. They try to keep this work as objective as possible and avoid politics. This personality prefers being alone, keeps quiet, is spiritual, academic, and attracted to nature and art most of the time. At their work, ISTJ 1w9 focus on doing their tasks well and according to plan. They make sure to reach their objectives and clarify any misconceptions. For them, freedom and flexibility is important as they want to spread awareness through their work. They like to do jobs in which they can influence people and the world in a positive manner such as e.g. judge, police officer, doctor, social worker, environmentalist etc. They also have good skills of writing, public speaking and teaching. 

Emotional Orientation and Defenses of ISTJ 1w9

ISTJ 1w9 personalities are often stressed by receiving criticism from others, being perceived as weak, ignored, not being able to make a difference and being exposed to corruption and evil in the world. They cope by avoiding negativity altogether. Often, they emotionally detach themselves from situations, distract themselves or completely withdraw. They are not the ones to get angry or emotionally volatile. Rather, they are more sarcastic, impatient and curt when they want to express their displeasure. ISTJs 1w9 are able to address conflicts at a formal level. However, they usually try to keep themselves separate from such situations. Their sense of right and wrong enables them to make logical arguments in conflicts which are devoid of emotional component. They dislike arguments based on a lot of emotions and often get upset when someone disagrees with their views. So, they stubbornly hold on to their views in defense.

ISTJs 1w9 often appear cold and aloof to other people. This may alienate them especially since they are also not emotional. Additionally, social interactions drain them easily so they prefer being alone. They also try to keep their private life to themselves and dont open up easily. However, when they do open up, they do so with people whom they care about. They make good friends who are loyal and follow principles. They are vulnerable to disagreeing with others and pushing them away. Especially, if they find that someone else is the root of the problem, they take action to put things to an end and convince themselves they are doing things right but this happens in unhealthy versions of this personality.
